Tin City Safari

TOUR DURATION: 2 – 2.5 HOURS

Tin City began in the early 1900’s when 2 tin shacks were built for shipwreck survivors. During the great depression of the 1930’s, Tin City grew to over 36 huts. Eleven of these huts still stand today! Learn more about this fascinating “City” amid the sand dunes on our Tin City Safari!

Tour inclusions:

- Your adventure begins with a 20 minute drive along beautiful Stockton Beach to Tin City in one of our 4WD vehicles. Find out all about the beach and dunes, and be on the lookout for a magnificent sea eagle or some dolphins!
- Once we arrive at Tin City, you will learn about it’s fascinating history, including all about its residents and how they have adapted to life in the sand dunes. Feel free to ask questions and take lots of photos!
- Spend around 20-30 mins exploring Tin City before departing for the return drive along the beach. We will stop to look for pipis, an important food source for the local endangered bird species that call the beach home.
- Jump back aboard the 4WD and head into the dunes, taking in the absolutely stunning views down the beach from the 30-50 metre high dunes. For those who are adventurous, you can try some sandboarding. We offer both sit down boarding as well as stand up, its a really simple and fun activity for all ages. We spend 30 mins to an hour doing the boarding, then head back to the car park.

Sandboarding is entirely optional, you are welcome to sit and watch the boarders, or just take in the magnificent views!

Please note that this Safari involves mainly beach driving, we do not drive along the dunes to reach Tin City. Stockton Beach and Sand Dunes is a National Park and very sensitive to vehicular traffic. There is a small amount of dune driving (around 20 minutes) towards the end of the tour.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR CHILDREN 5 AND UNDER. This tour involves sightseeing and education, and is not suited to younger children.

Departs: By Arrangement. (Note: departure times vary according to low tide and weather/sea conditions). Can be done anytime from sunrise to sunset.
